Active cooperation between the US and Uzbekistan plays a key role in ensuring security in Central Asia, this opinion political analyst Dosym Satpayev shared with Tengrinews.kz. Note that in the beginning of December, the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Nisha Desai Bisval. The sides discussed the development of cooperation, and international issues, particularly the situation in Afghanistan.
According to the expert, there are two states in Central Asia, to which the United States will pay serious attention they are Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Satpayev said that the US interest in Kazakhstan is the oil and gas sector, as in the Republic received significant US investment in those areas. In addition, western partners interested in Kazakhstan due to its multi-vector foreign policy despite the close integration projects with Belarus and Russia.
“In Uzbekistan, there is an important factor – regional stability. This is one of the key players in our region. Stability in this country will seriously affect the stability of the whole of Central Asia. Do not forget that Uzbekistan, unlike Kazakhstan, showed a more active stance on Afghanistan, actively engaging in dialogue US, NATO and Russia. In this position of Washington and Tashkent converge in the sense that the situation in Afghanistan could destabilize and it will affect regional security “, – said Satpayev.
The political scientist noted that Uzbekistan is not so interesting to US in terms of economic. “If you look at the post-Soviet space, in my opinion, there is only one state that has increased investment attractiveness – is Kazakhstan. Before the war, sanctions have been three such states – Ukraine, Russia and Kazakhstan, but now there was only our country, and in Central Asia, no one disputes the economic position of Kazakhstan, although they are not perfect “- said Satpayev.
He expressed the opinion that Uzbekistan, as well as Kazakhstan will adhere to the model of remote partnership, that is to actively support the interaction with all major geopolitical players.
Political analyst Rustam Burnashev believes that there is no increase in cooperation between Uzbekistan and the United States. “Putin visited Uzbekistan, Karimov was recently attending meeting in Astana. It’s just the usual diplomatic practice – the exchange of visits and meetings between representatives of the executive authorities of different countries. From my point of view, in recent years, relations remain at the same level, “- said the expert.
