The first case publicly revealing rigged election in Uzbekistan

bmt_zakovat_7Radio Ozodlik (Freedom) reported: Votes received for Hushnud Khudaiberdyev, 25-year-old candidate from Chirokchi district of Kashkadarya region of Uzbekistan,  were rigged in favor of another candidate – the current deputy. Mayor of the district Ravshan Kamilov denied his involvement in this.

It is a common sense in Uzbekistan, that elections are just a spectacle required to portray “democracy” in the country. Most people have “understanding” of that and rationalize the situation. Most people would say: “Peace is the most important thing for us! We do not want Islamic terrorists establish here their Islamic state! Just like we do not want American planes bombing us like Iraq to establish here their democracy! Our government is good at preserving stability, and therefore we should just be happy that we have! At the end of the day, even if someone new comes to power,  they were start stealing and seizing from a “fresh start”, so it is better to have someone who is not “hungry” by now.

However, the younger generation is not yet stigmatized by stereotype and still have not forgotten how to dream and believe in miracles, that “there is a true love in the world”, “there is a true democracy in the world”!

According to “Ozodlik” (radio “Freedom” in Uzbekistan) votes for Hushnud Khudaiberdyev , a 25-year-old candidate to the Supreme Council of the Legislative Chamber of Uzbekistan  from the Social Democratic Party “Adolat”, a senior lawyer association of professional unions Tashkent region, were transferred in favor of his rival, who is also a deputy of the previous convocation and nominated for re-election.

Source of Chirokchi, who wrote a letter to the radio “Ozodlik”, says the district mayor Ravshan Kamilov has ordered to fabricate results of the election.
“My uncle worked as a secretary of the election commission” he wrote. According to him, Ravshan Kamilov the mayor of the Chirokchi  district  gathered yesterday all chairmen and secretaries of the election commission … Seeing that Hushnud Khudaiberdyev received about 60 percent of the vote, he shouted, looking at all: “Why our man have not gotten these votes?”.  Then he ordered to rewrite the number of votes. “- wrote the source.

Correspondent of Radio “Ozodlik” contacted the chairman of one of the polling stations of Chirokchi area and asked about orders hokim district rewrite voice. Chairman of the polling station, referring to the fact that not slept 2 nights, refused to answer.

The mayor of Chirokchi district Ravshan Kamilov said in an interview with radio “Ozodlik” that there were no orders, and he did not give that all allegations of forgery votes unfounded.

– I do not have any right to interfere in the elections, – he said.

At the same time in social networks “Twitter” and “Facebook” got a lot of records, talking about a fake votes received Hushnud Khudaiberdyev in favor of another candidate.

“Ozodlik” radio was unable to connect with Hushnud Khudaiberdyev.

At the same time, the source, who spoke against the injustices against 25-year-old candidate, said that residents of Chirokchi want to complain to the Presidential Administration.

It should be noted that “faith in the kindness of the great king” is still in power among the people, obviously this is one of those hopes that dies last.

In fairness it should be noted that even in countries’ development and mature “democracy, such as the US or the UK, for example, elections are far from democratic in nature. This is well commented by British political activist and comedian Russell Brand.

There is no hope that change can come in the context of the existing system, doesnt matter if it is Uzbekistan, Europe or USA.

About Ahmed Islamov

I was born and raised in Uzbekistan and lived in that country for about two thirds of my life. I left the country about 14 years ago but sustained tight bonds with my family and friends living there. I know and communicate personally with hundreds of people including blue-, white- or pink-collar workers. I am naturally very attached to and concerned with everything that is going on there.
