Why the National media “ignored” pre-election report of Islam Karimov?

The government press has not said a word to address speech of the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov on February 6 at the 7th Congress of the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan held in Tashkent. National newspapers have not published the program of the main “candidate” for presidency, as well as national news agency “Ahborot” did not translate the congress, says “Ozodlik” (Radio “Freedom” in Uzbekistan)The speech of the President Islam Karimov at the 7th Congress of the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan held in Tashkent on February 6 was only reported by the UzDaily.uz. Interestingly though, a few hours after the publication of that article it has been removed from the page.

Prior to this, information about the deterioration of the health of 77-year-old Uzbek President Karimov distributed by dozens of foreign media in Central Asia and Russia with reference to the opposition “People’s Movement of Uzbekistan” (NDU).
That’s why most expected to see Karimov on television. However, Mr Karimov did not appear on television.

According to the publication Uzmetronom.com, the speech of Islam Karimov has been published in the UzLiDeP newsletters that have limited circulation, whereas leading government agencies publications and left the subject out of sight.
“That’s why most of the citizens of the country remain in the dark about the future plans of the presidential candidate– says Uzmetronom.com.

Information that the main candidate for President elections, Islam Karimov fell into a coma on January 28 has been spread by the People’s Movement by Uzbekistan” (NDU).
However, the internal information sources of “Ozodlik” radio do not confirm that information.

About Ahmed Islamov

I was born and raised in Uzbekistan and lived in that country for about two thirds of my life. I left the country about 14 years ago but sustained tight bonds with my family and friends living there. I know and communicate personally with hundreds of people including blue-, white- or pink-collar workers. I am naturally very attached to and concerned with everything that is going on there.
